Approach to Counseling
Jen’s Approach
When working with clients, I practice a prescriptive approach, integrating directive and non-directive methods.
What are directive methods? I play an active role in our work by guiding you, challenging you when appropriate, offering advice and recommendations, and always supporting you in a safe and welcoming environment.
What are non-directive methods? I am following your lead. I think this method is best described in this way “metaphorically, the therapist is walking alongside the client—sometimes a few paces behind, sometimes a few paces ahead, sometimes stopping to discuss where to go next, but always going wherever the client goes. The therapist never chooses the direction” (Stephen Joseph, Psychology Today)
As a counselor, I believe growth takes place in a space that is warm, welcoming, and recognizes where you are in in your own journey. I offer counseling services to adults, adolescents, and children.
Hannah’s Approach
When working with clients, I provide a variety of approaches to therapy, including person-centered, solution focused (SFBT) and strength-based. I use sandtray, expressive arts, and play therapy methods to help clients express themselves, improve emotional regulation, and develop coping skills.
My own journey has shaped my understanding of the courage it takes to seek support and the importance of self-compassion along the way. Through navigating chronic illness, exploring my neurodivergence, and embracing my identity within the LGBTQIA+ community, I’ve learned to approach the counseling process with authenticity, empathy, and respect for the many layers that make each person who they are
I offer counseling services to adults, adolescents, and children.
Adults
Growth. Heal. Well-being.
Adolescents
Safe. Authentic. Non-judgemental.
Children
Play. Explore. Learn.
